Tomb Raider (2013) – Game Review

Posted by in Games

Tomb Raider, released in March 2013, is an Action Adventure Platform game developed by Crystal Dynamics and is a reboot/origin story of the legendary English archaeologist Lara Croft.  I rented the PS3 version from Game Access, though I hear the PC version has substantially better graphics, the PS3 version wasn’t bad at all. The story follows a young Lara Croft as she goes out on her first expedition as the junior archaeologist to the famous Dr. Whitman, who is funding the expedition to find the Yamatai, the Japanese kingdom where…read more

Waking Mars

Waking Mars is a 2D adventure game developed by Tiger Style for iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux.  Nominated one of the best mobile games of 2012 for the Independent Games Festival.  I grabbed this game in the Humble Bundle for Android 4 which included the Steam key when the game was finally green lit a few weeks later. I did try this game on my phone on new years day but I got only so far and decided to give it a break when I didn’t know where to…read more

Escape Goat & PixelJunk Eden

These two games can in the same Indie Royale bundle I picked up a while ago so I thought I’d give them a try this weekend. Escape Goat by MagicalTimeBeam is a very retro style game, almost to it’s detriment.  You play as a goat that has been imprisoned for witchcraft (must be in Nigeria) and you must escape by solving puzzles.  There are virtually no graphics options, just “stretch to fit” and the pixel art is more pixely than usual.  That said the game has some really interesting puzzle…read more

Q.U.B.E.

I picked up Q.U.B.E. in the Steam Cube Pack along with Blocks That Matter and EDGE (so this is really turning out to be a great pack) and has probably been compared to Portal about a hundred times, so I’ll try not to do that here (other than I just did). Q.U.B.E. is a first person puzzle game where your character can manipulate some of the blocks that make up the environment.  In effect this game is a physics based puzzle platformer, which it does really well for the most…read more

Blocks That Matter – Game Review

Posted by in Games

I decided to buy an indie bundle (shocker, I know) from Steam called the Cube Pack, which included a bunch of cube themed games (BIT.TRIP Runner, EDGE, Critical Mass, Q.U.B.E., RUSH, and Blocks That Matter – You know they are serious because of all the capitals), for about $10.  This bundle is totally worth it if only for Blocks That Matter, it is a great 2D platform puzzler with all kinds of nostalgia for the games I love. The basic idea is that  you control a robot that has the…read more
